✏️ FROM OUR DESK: A FOGGY PATH
Last week, we began a branding project that broke all our usual rules. Typically, we require clear scopes, defined deliverables, and precise commercial structures before starting work.
This time? None of that was possible. The founder was new to building a brand from scratch. They knew they needed "marketing support," but where to start and where to go remained completely open-ended. It was as if they needed us to identify what they'd need for a solid foundation, and then convince them why. Despite us breaking down possible deliverables into tiered packages and few rounds of discussions, they couldn't decide what felt like priority. Website revamp or logo redesign? Continue with current setup and just start marketing? Begin with Instagram or try out a hyperlocal campaigns? This soon turned into a loop, and nothing was moving.
Where to start and where to go - that was the question.
Now here’s the deal. We liked this person. They seemed like they’d be great to work with, and we’d learn a lot. Despite the back & forth, they passed the vibe check - our strongest filter. They were respectful, calm & collected and genuinely passionate about what they were building. So we took a novel approach. Rather than pushing for clarity (our typical comfort zone!), we started without the usual roadmap. And we're now conducting a brand workshop series without a final list of deliverables. We’re working on this with full commitment, and focused on figuring it out together - something that would have made our hyper-structured personalities insanely nervous a year ago.
What we've discovered is surprising: this approach has built a more natural relationship for sure. Without rigid boundaries and endless talk of "SOW deliverables," - we're having more honest conversations and building genuine trust. The client sees us as true partners in their uncertainty, not just service providers. And our team is enjoying exploring a new sector, geography and customer personas.
Are we working for free? Heck no.
We will get paid, with a tentative range in mind.
TLDR: Sometimes the most valuable business relationships develop when you're willing to step into the fog together. Clear processes matter, but embracing ambiguity can create stronger partnerships than any scope document ever could.

The Article We Loved: Ugly websites sell better.
In an article with one of the most clickbait titles ever, "Ugly websites sell better," web designer Michal Malewicz challenges the current trend of prioritizing aesthetics over functionality. He argues that many celebrated designs featuring beautiful mountain backgrounds (personal attack!?), parallax and isometric animations, or all the “interactive” elements may look impressive on social media but fail to convert visitors into customers. The real purpose of a website, he reminds us, is to sell something - and not just look pretty.
"Regular people treat design as close to art. They want a pretty painting on their domain most of the time".
And our role is to simple create that balance between form & function.
